My thesis project investigates how we can create fictional characters that model self-compassion to audience members. My study has two parts. First, a classic scientific experiment will examine whether fictional characters' self-compassionate behaviours have a contagious effect on audiences. Second, based on these findings and interviews with producers, directors, playwrights, and screenwriters. I will develop a practical framework for creatives to craft characters that effectively model self-compassion. This research aims to bridge psychological understandings of self-compassion with creative character creation practices.
